RPET umbrella fabric uses recycled polyethylene terephthalate, a recycled polyester material. A claim about the canopy does not automatically cover the frame, handle or packaging. Specify the recycled share and fabric construction, request evidence applicable to the order, and approve printing and performance separately from recycled-content claims.
What RPET means for an umbrella
RPET refers to recycled polyethylene terephthalate, a recycled polyester material direction. In an umbrella project it commonly concerns the canopy fabric. It does not automatically describe the frame, handle, sleeve or packaging.
Begin by naming the component and the proposed recycled percentage. Then treat the fabric like any other canopy: confirm its construction, finish, color, printing suitability and required performance.
Ask for evidence that matches your order
Textile Exchange’s recycled standards address recycled-material verification and chain of custody. A general claim or logo in a brochure is not enough to establish the specification of your particular order. Ask which evidence is available, what it covers and whether it applies to the relevant supplier and product.
Check current standards and claims requirements with the appropriate standard owner. Do not assume that one document authorizes every wording or logo on your own retail packaging.
Separate the decisions
| Decision | What to confirm |
|---|---|
| Canopy | Fiber composition, recycled share, weave and finish |
| Sleeve | Whether it uses the same or a different material |
| Frame and handle | Their own composition and construction |
| Packaging | Material, print finish and disposal instructions appropriate to the market |
| Claims | Evidence and approved wording for the actual supplied product |
A bamboo handle can provide a particular appearance and feel, but it does not by itself establish the environmental impact of the complete umbrella.
Approve appearance and function
Request an actual printed swatch or finished sample. Review color, hand-feel, logo coverage, seams and how the fabric folds. Recycled content and functional performance are separate questions; one does not answer the other.
If you plan to repeat an order, keep a signed-off specification and sample. Record permitted variations and any required documentation at the time of purchase rather than after the shipment has been made.
Use precise language in your campaign
Prefer a specific, supportable component claim over broad language such as fully sustainable or completely eco-friendly. Do not describe the whole umbrella as recycled, recyclable or biodegradable solely because one fabric contains recycled material.
For an inquiry, send the product format, quantity, destination, artwork and the claim your team hopes to make. We can then discuss the available material direction and the evidence needed before agreeing the order.
