Begin with a physical swatch of the proposed material and finish. A screen image is useful for discussion, but it does not establish an exact color match.

Identify the master swatch or color reference and agree how samples will be viewed. Compare the proposed canopy, strap and sleeve side by side when they are intended to coordinate. Different constructions or finishes may give a visibly different appearance even when the same color name is used.

Choose a colorfastness question before choosing a test

Ask what the customer needs to evaluate: dry rubbing, wet rubbing, water exposure or another condition. Test names answer different questions, so a report should specify the method, sample and result. A passing result for one exposure should not be restated as a general guarantee against fading or transfer.

ISO 105-X12 addresses colorfastness to rubbing and includes dry and wet rubbing conditions. This is an example of a defined textile method; it is not a claim that every Ark fabric has been tested to it. Agree the applicable method and acceptance criteria with the buyer and testing provider.

Review

Evidence to keep

Initial shade

Identified master and proposed fabric swatches.

Printed appearance

Approved print on the actual substrate.

Rubbing behavior

Applicable method, conditions, sample and result.

Other exposures

A separately agreed method and acceptance requirement.

Bulk consistency

Records linking the supplied material to its approval.

Include the printed and contacting materials

A dark canopy and a light sleeve are separate surfaces that may contact each other when packed. Discuss that combination before approval. Similarly, a printed logo adds a treatment that may need evaluation beyond the unprinted fabric.

If wet storage, repeated handling or a particular use environment matters to the customer, state it in the brief. The testing provider can then help define relevant conditions. Do not use an informal desk check as a substitute for a specified laboratory report.

Read results against the correct sample

Check the report’s sample description, fabric reference, color and finish. Establish whether the tested item was an unprinted swatch, a printed panel or another component. Keep the result linked to that sample rather than extending it to all colors in the collection.

Ask how the proposed production material relates to the approved sample. If the material, dyeing, coating or print changes, review whether the previous evidence remains relevant. A trade name such as pongee or a density label alone is not enough to identify the tested construction.

Give shade approval its own acceptance record

Keep a dated approval for the fabric shade and another identifiable record for the finished print. For repeat orders, refer back to the original master instead of allowing each new sample to become the reference for the next. This makes changes easier to detect.

Where a numerical color tolerance or grading threshold is required, agree it explicitly with the customer and supplier. There is no single threshold in this guide that applies to every umbrella, color and market. State the requirement before quotation and sample testing.

Ihre Bestellung mit Ark Umbrella planen

For Ark Umbrella projects, send the intended canopy color together with the matching strap, sleeve and logo requirements.
